This is a mockup of the lamp configurator I’m putting together for my line of “Urchin” lamps. When its finished, people will be able to set up their own lamp the way they want it, see how much it will cost, and buy it using paypal – all through the same online tool.

The mockup opens in a new window since I haven’t figured out how to embed processing into wordpress yet. Use the sliders on the left to control options like scale and materials. The resulting size and price is shown on the right. You can’t buy laps with this configurator yet so the “make it” button doesn’t do anything. This is currently tested and working in firefox on both mac and windows. ItsĀ  working in chrome on windows, but not on mac (at least not on mine).

I’m still working out the kinks in the back end, so the pricing is not accurate yet. Stay tuned for the official release coming up soon! If you absolutely need to buy an Urchin lamp right now, check out the one size available in the Ponoko store!

  • Hi.

This looks cool and I was hoping to try it out, but sadly I get an error message saying:

    read: classorg/zhang/Applet not found.
    java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: org.zhang.Applet

[I have translated the parts that were in swedish so the phrasing might be off from "default" java errors]
I use firefox 11.0 and the same with chrome 19.0

      Hi Jonas
Sadly this applet only works on a mac (at least as far as I’ve seen). I’ve tested it in safari, chrome and firefox on Mac OS10.6.8, all of which work fine. On windows using the same browsers, I get the same erors you got. I am currently working on an updated version using processing.js (basically the same as javascript) which will eliminate the need to download java and hopefully make it more platform compatible. The updated version will also (finally) allow you to buy a cusomized lamp through the interface. Send me an email at chris[at]fabripod.com and I’ll keep you updated. Thanks!
      -Chris
